Shadow Valley Country Club
An integrated turf and aquatic management program improved maintenance efficiency, enhanced weed control, and reduced equipment wear across a complex golf and residential community.
THE CHALLENGE
Managing Multiple Turf Species Across a Complex Property
Shadow Valley Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas, maintains championship-quality golf conditions while supporting a private residential community of nearly 900 homes. The property includes bentgrass greens, Kentucky bluegrass collars and approaches, zoysiagrass fairways, bermudagrass tees and roughs, irrigation lakes, and extensive common areas.
Managing multiple turf species across a single property created ongoing agronomic and operational challenges. The maintenance team regularly addressed Poa annua around cool-season collars, goosegrass in warm-season turf, heavy rainfall events, and nutrient runoff entering irrigation ponds. Previous weed management programs also complicated overseeding and turf recovery efforts, while maintenance staff sought to improve efficiency without increasing labor requirements.

THE APPROACH
Integrating Turf Growth Regulation, Weed Control, and Water Quality Management
Superintendent Ethan Charles implemented a comprehensive management strategy designed to improve efficiency across both turf and water resources. Legacy® was incorporated to regulate vegetative growth and improve mowing efficiency, while StriCore® strengthened pre-emergent weed management with applications targeting Poa annua and goosegrass across multiple turf species.
To address water quality challenges, the club also implemented an aquatic management program utilizing EutroSORB®, SeClear®, and Captain® to reduce nutrient loading, improve pond conditions, and manage algae in irrigation lakes receiving continual stormwater runoff from surrounding residential areas.
